Lapped by the iridescent warm waters of the Indian Ocean, the recently refurbished Coco de Mer is a friendly and very comfortable little property, designed in contemporary Seychellois style, and nestled between the sea and the famous Vallée de Mai. Coco de Mer offers spacious accommodation in a superbly peaceful location, incorporating the Black Parrot Suites (200 metres away) beachfront neighbours on Praslin’s sunset-facing west coast. This friendly, family run hotel is a great little hideaway at great value – explore the local nature, go cycling, or just relax on a hammock on the beach.
Leading out from the reception is the Coco de Mer courtyard with its koi pond and jets of water, overlooked by a wooden sala, with a sumptuous daybed. Vessels of rough black and grey stone slate intermingle with the green gardens and trimmed grass verges. Very inviting hammocks surrounded by lush tropical gardens and beside its delightful beach allow you to unwind and relax.
Coco de Mer features 40 refurbished bungalow rooms – some located at garden level by the sea, others set higher (most have sea view). Some are split-level and all have a large bedroom with four-poster bed, sitting area (convertible to accommodate two children), private bath and shower, satellite television, mini-fridge, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, safe and tea/coffee making facilities. Superior Rooms offer the same amenities as the Standard Rooms but located directly on the beach terrace.
The Hibiscus Restaurant now boasts private, wooden dining decks over a trickling stream and an elevated central area with stunning ocean views. Flanked by a wall of mirrors, interspersed with black and copper mosaic, its offers a combination of international and Creole cuisine; barbecues, buffets and table d’hôte. The emphasis is on quality, variety, professional presentation and service. An English breakfast is served, with a range of hot and cold options, fresh tropical fruits, Italian coffee and freshly baked croissants.
The Mango Terrace Bar & Restaurant has been modernised and clad in wood, black slate and ivory tiles, all trimmed with copper. The restaurant, offering casual poolside dining, is flanked by a wall of coconut tree trunks and suspended coconuts, giving a feel of the tropics and seaside laid-back dining. It is open for lunch and offers succulent seafood, sandwiches and light snacks. You can also enjoy an exotic sundowner or a refreshing drink after a dip in the pool. The Coco de Mer pool, whilst retaining its renowned shape, has been modified, re-tiled and trimmed with a mosaic of Indigo blue and copper. As the sun sets, the pool comes to life with a hidden surround of tiny LED lights, transforming it into a lake of shimmering blue water.
The Coconut Bar, housed under a thatched roof, has been modernised into a trendy area with speckled grey granite counters, trimmed with black slate and copper, and accented by deep blue laser lighting. The Coconut Bar and Black Parrot Bar (located at the adjacent Black Parrott) features live music approximately three or four times a week.
